Join us for a 6 day overnight trekking adventure through the wild Orangutan territory of Gunung Leuser National
Park. Inclusive of 3 nights hotel accommodation in Bukit
Lawang to relax before and after the trek and a short practice trek to visit the semi wild rehabilitated Orangutans at the Bukit Lawang feeding platform.
Whist trekking learn key jungle skills such as building fires and camps, finding and cooking jungle vegetables, fishing for dinner and finding and preparing jungle medicine.
The Sumatran rain forest is host to a multitude of species, including Sumatran Orangutan, Sumatran Tiger, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Sumatran Elephant, Sumatran Striped Rabbit, Malayan Tapir, Malayan Sun Bear, Bornean Clouded Leopard and many birds and butterflies. Of the 10,000 plant species recorded in the West Indo-Malayan region, it is estimated that 45% are found in the Gunung Leuser ecosystem. It is also home to Sumatran Pine, Rafflesia arnoldii (world's largest individual flower), Titan arum (world's tallest and largest inflorescence flower)
This expedition lasts for 9 days, but we can offer more activities such as Elephant Riding in Tangakhan, Whitewater rafting and overland tours to Brastagi volacano and Lake Toba if you have more time to experience the many highlights Sumatra has to offer.
This expedition is ideal for single travellers looking for like minded people to share experiences with. Please see below for 2008-2009 group dates. Alternatively we can arrange for you to do the trek alone with our guides, at a date fitting into your travel schedule.

TYPICAL ITINERARY :
(may vary according to weather conditions)
Day One
Early afternoon pick up from Medan and private transportation to hotel accommodation in Bukit Lawang. Orientation and dinner with head guide.
Day Two
Breakfast followed by short practice trek to orangutan feeding platform and the surrounding jungle area.
Day Three
Breakfast and set off on 6 day trekking adventure. Overnight camping and dinner.
Day Four
Continuing trek to next camp looking for signs of wild orangutan nests and other wildlife tracks. Instruction in making a jungle camp followed by late afternoon fishing by the river and instruction in preparing a jungle dinner.
Day Five
Day spent looking for signs or wildlife in the surrounding area, whilst also collecting jungle vegetables for dinner and useful jungle medical remedies. Instruction in how to prepare the jungle vegetables and demonstration in preparation of jungle medicine and its uses.
Day Six
Continue trekking and observing wildlife. Opportunity for guests to help with setting up the jungle camp and preparation of dinner.
Day Seven
Further trekking and tracking of wildlife. Final night of camping in the jungle. Guests can help to set up camp and prepare jungle dinner. (not obligatory!)
Day Eight
Trek to tubing pick up point for exhilarating river tubing back to Bukit Lawang and accommodation. Evening barbeque and party.
Day Nine
Private transportation back to Medan .

Important Note
An average to high level of physical fitness is required for this expedition. Conditions can be hot and at times exhausting in a tropical, rainforest climate.
