Pickup from Medan, Kuala Namu airport or Medan guesthouse by private transportation and journey 3-4 hours direct to Bukit Lawang.
Depending upon arrival time explore the village or relax at the guesthouse for the remainder of the day/evening.
A chance to acclimatise to the heat and colourful surroundings. After a relaxed morning take a village tour by becak (motorbike and sidecar) around the local area. The guide will show you some of the traditional industry and agriculture of this region and introduce you to the area and its cultures. Depending upon the day visit a traditional market, the weekly meeting point for many of the locals and a hive of activity, smells, sights and sounds. Relax at a café next to the Bohorok for lunch before taking a walk to the bat cave in the afternoon. Return to guesthouse accommodation in the late afternoon.
Set off with the guides into the jungle, firstly trekking around the old feeding platform area to try and spot some semi wild orangutans foraging in their natural habitat. Continue on deeper into the jungle. The guide will teach you about the flora and fauna of the National Park.
Stop off regularly for wildlife spotting opportunities and fruit refreshment. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the jungle in the early afternoon at a nice spot next to the river or a high point where you can take in a spectacular view of the primary rainforest.
In the mid to late afternoon the guide will select a suitable spot next to the river to set up camp. Help out with fishing for dinner or learn some jungle skills from the guides.
Continue trekking and spotting wildlife for the day. Camp at a new location next to the river.
After breakfast either relax at the camp and swim in the river or continue trekking around the camp area. After a final lunch in the jungle river tube back to the village. Explore the village and the local area for the remainder of the day. Guesthouse accommodation.
Journey 5 hours by private transportation to Berastagi. Check into hotel accommodation. Take a walk or drive up to Gundaling hill for a panoramic view of Sinabung and Sibayak volcanoes.
If enough time, visit the famous fruit market of Berastagi and sample some of the delicious passion fruit or visit a traditional Batak Karo house.
Take an early morning hike up to the summit of Sibayak volcano from where you can take in panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Visit some hot springs on the descent.
After lunch embark on the 4 hour picturesque journey through pine forest, terraced plantations and verdant meadows to Lake Toba. Stop off at the Batak Karo village of Lingga and the magnificent Sipiso Piso waterfall. At 120m high Spiso Piso waterfall is the highest waterfall in Indonesia. Arrive at Parapat harbour and take the ferry across to Samosir Island.
Check into guesthouse accommodation next to the lake.
Island tour around Samosir Island. Take in the spectacular scenery of Samosir Island and the Lake. This tour will include a visit to the small museum and cultural center at Simanindo and a local Batak king's residence at Ambarita. Visit the stone circle where judgement would be passed on criminals and enemies, and ritual cannibalism would take place. During this day you can take a look around a traditional Batak Toba house, enjoy some Batak dancing see traditional tombs and a sarong maker. It's also possible to visit the local market or just kick back and swim and relax by the lake.
On your final morning visit the hot springs at Pangururan and spend the final afternoon relaxing and swimming in the lake.
Enjoy evenings being entertained by traditional Batak Karo musicians.
Take the ferry back to Parapat harbour before a 5 hour journey direct to Medan and 3 star hotel accommodation on Jalan Surabaya, in the heart of the city and within a stone’s throw of various entertainment and dining options. The guide will help to organise taxi transportation back to the airport when required the next day.
